from my fic for the upcoming forgot my invitation event - if all my future fics are from annie sugden's pov this is where it started:
"Mum," he says, surprised. He looks up from her then, seeing Aaron, and Annie watches as his eyes narrow. "What, eh, what are you doing up here? I wasn't expecting you."
"Well, of course you're not expecting me, you never call," Annie pushes past him into the kitchen. She turns back once she's over the threshold and waves at Aaron, "Come along, dear."
"I don't thi-" Jack starts, but Annie cuts him off as she takes off her coat and starts putting together the makings of some tea.
"You know who calls? Joe calls." She hears Jack sigh behind her and the door close. She looks over her shoulder at him, seeing him eying Aaron warily, who in turn is flicking his eyes between the door, the floor, and Jack. "Joe calls me, every day, and we talk for 15 minutes, right after the evening news."
