I know these characters all your babies, but is there a particular one that you have a harder time putting pen to paper? Or one that the words just flow easily on?
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD QUESTION, this is exciting (though I’m assuming you mean from all of my stories?)
The Zafars (from the MODosphere) flow fairly well off the page. Sam are a dream to write. Ari’s a bit tougher, because she’s so complex, but it’s not that she’s hard to write: it’s more that I have to curb myself, because there’s so much to say. Dany and Mara are pretty good too. Tara’s probably the toughest out of the Zafars, just because she’s so different to the rest of her family and, I guess, I don’t share the same connection with her as the others because of it.
I actually struggle a lot with Mary from Code Blue. I love her to bits, but she’s so... Detached? Not just from others, but from her own emotions, which is hard to convey in words without (I feel) like lecturing the characters on themselves, which I’d worry makes their actions and their feelings too disjointed. Adam’s easier, but Toby Barlow from CB is probably the easiest for me.
Tristan from the Dare You series was someone I could usually write in my sleep, but that’s become a lot harder as time has gone on. A strange add-on to that is how easy it is to write Owen and Ritchie in Dirty Work? Elisabet’s harder because she juggles so many different facets of her personality and I haven’t written much Georgie yet. It’s weird, because I feel like there’s this pattern of me being able to write my male characters better?
Soph will always be my easiest character to write, though. I just know her so well. We’ve grown up together, so I can get into her head and relate to her so much more. It took a while to be able to write her as a mother, but even with that, I can still write - I’m just more self-conscious of it.
