#DystoniaAwareness
Spot the symptoms of dystonia The symptoms generally – but always – involve involuntary spasms, cramps or tremors, and include: • Muscle spasms. • Abnormal blinking or twitching of the eye, which usually clears up within a few hours. Eyes may also feel tired or dry, and the eyelid may feel heavy. • Tremor - uncontrollable shaking or oscillation of a part of the body. This can occur in the head, arms, eyes, face, vocal cords, trunk, and legs. • Neck problems - such as contractions, painful muscle spasms or stiffness. • Hand problems – including cramps, twisting or curling up of the hands while writing or playing an instrument, and fingers moving of their own accord to unusual positions. • A strangled, throaty, husky, breathy or whispering voice. • Pain can sometimes occur, most commonly in people with neck dystonia and/or generalised dystonia.
