Tickled (2016) is a documentary about “competitive endurance tickling.” Journalist David Farrier comes across videos of this bizarre sport on the internet, writes about it, and quickly receives threats of legal action from the video’s producers. Convinced there must be more to the story, Farrier investigates further despite the threats against him.
This film is about fetish, the power of money, and homophobia. It’s a documentary about someone who does not wish to be documented. It’s a pretty wild investigation and I don’t want to spoil it for you. Although the ending might not be entirely satisfying, I highly recommend the follow-up, The Tickle King.

Tickled (2016, Nouvelle-Zélande, 92 min, vostfr) un film documentaire de David Farrier et Dylan Reeve. Gratuit et ouvert à tous. En 2014, le journaliste néo-zélandais David Farrier découvre, lors de recherches dans les profondeurs d'internet, l'existence de vidéos de "competitive endurance tickling", qui pourrait se traduire par "Compétition de chatouille d'endurance". On y voit de jeunes hommes athlétiques attachés et qui se chatouillent à tour de rôle. Évidement intrigué, le journaliste contacte la boite de production derrière la plupart de ces vidéos. Et c'est là que le documentaire prend tout son intérêt : alors qu'il pensait juste braquer les projecteurs sur un sport méconnu ou un fantasme marginal, Farrier se retrouve face à un refus des plus hostiles de la part des principaux acteurs du monde de la chatouille sportive. D'article innofensif, l'enquête prend de plus en plus les formes d'un roman policier sordide. Jamais sorti en France, ni en salles, ni en DVD, Tickled a été projeté au festival de Sundance où il a été nommé pour le prix du jury, ainsi que dans une dizaine de festivals internationaux. Il s'y est fait remarquer par son déroulement inattendu et son ton, mélangeant rire et malaise.

“For all its frightful detours, Tickled maintains a lightness that backs the bafflement we’re clearly supposed to feel. One wishes [David] Farrier and [Dylan] Reeve pushed slightly harder for a bombastic ending. But when you’re dealing with a real-life, albeit wacky, James Bond villain, there’s no point in risking it all in the name of a documentary for which you already have most of the content.”
