MASH SF California Bomb - The Picture of Ambivalence
I'm of so many minds on this video, I might implode. I know watching dangerous feats of derring-do are is far less enjoyable when you have a connection to the person doing them. I know this MASH rider, Dylan, from his Tam Bikes days (we've written about him before on Team Lope) and he does a number of things in this video that fill me with wonder: he unclips descending California... he drags long skids that don't slow his momentum (though they may presumably be combating acceleration)... he does a flippity-floo trick before he starts that's great... and he dodges a Boxster entering the theater garage as if it was nothing. On the other hand, it's a scary effing video. You don't have to know SF, to know California, to know what it's like to manage a fixed gear at speed, to know watching this that it was a boolean stunt. He would survive or he wouldn't. Brakeless, steep, long bombing run... it takes me back to the original MASH video and watching them doing those side skids in long swails through the traffic. I guess it's just scarier when you know the guy. No question his skills are both mad and displayable. I scurred. http://mashsf.com/dylan-buffington-on-c ... ia-street/
BTW ambivalence means attracted to and repulsed by. It's not a negative thing. It's a mixed bag. Dylan's skills are both mad and displayable. But I have the fears! Then again, I'm over 40 and have kids, so.Â
