....so, I did a thing -
In an effort to help brainstorm ideas about the worldbuilding project I've been working on for one of my bois (and cuz I thought it would be a fun prompt to do) I drew one of my friend's sonas as a character in said world!
Meet Viaat'mur (@veamers), the local dye-maker for one of the Mountain-Dweller tribes that live in the Arctic regions with looooots of deep snow!
As per the lore we made together, she lives in a small/medium sized den on a hill overlooking the village, separated only because the dye-making process occasionally includes plants or other ingredients that are dangerous to handle, especially around nosy peaklings and wheps who have slipped away from their sires. Also, being closer to the forest, there's easier access to ingredients!
Large paws help her stay atop the deep snow in the colder seasons, and long fur keeps her warm from all but the harshest winds, as well as camouflaging her pelt against the birch-like trees and hibernating black-vines!
Unlike Sea-Dwellers, Mountain-Dwellers (and the other terrestrial Kinds) have visible ears, and hers serve as a quick method to narrow identification from afar!
Here, Viaat'mur can be found going on a foraging trip for ingredients. She has with her a woven vine-skin basket to hold said ingredients in, a small scythe to collect with, a belt identifying what group she belongs to (plus a water skin and coin pouch), and a saddle - partially to keep the worst of the winds off her back, and to make anything burdensome she may have to carry less painful on her muscles.
The saddle is something you commonly see among Mountain-Dwellers - unlike some other Kinds, they don't have reliable beasts with which to carry their things whenever they travel. Those available are either ill-suited for common Mountain-Dweller terrain, or are notoriously hard to train. Of course, especially influential or rich Mountain-Dwellers may have beasts they have trained for the task (barely trained, but just enough to be efficient), but most Mountain-Dwellers will either carry their own load or have another do it for them.
Viaat'mur's saddle reflects her position in her village, boasting her skill both at creating the dyes and putting them to use. Over the years, the colors on her fur would disappear with every shed between cold and warm seasons, but sometimes it seems as though they have dyed her pelt itself, stubbornly shifting the hues around her mane and paws just slightly.
