In the spirit of tool Tuesday, I give mine..Top coat or finish. It is important to protect and preserve your leather and a good top finish is part of that. So after spending most of the day hand-dyeing and hand painting these bags they were ready for their top coat today. Next step, is punching all the stitching holes. Hopefully these beauties will be done in time. Working on a new project! Nothing too big, but still an opportunity to experiment. But can't give too much away right now haha! I must say, I'm pleased with the leather I dyed, the three shiny lengths on the right. I originally toyed with waxing the leather, then overdying with spirit-based dye, which looked great but turned out near impossible to adequately seal. So I'm especially glad my more normal method, a dye covered with acrylic sealer, gave a similar looking result. It is a bit too shiny though, so I'm going to knock back the gloss with a soft kitchen scourer, which you can see I've tested on the short bit on the lower right. #leather #leatherwork #leatherjewelry #wip #handmade #leatherdye #dyedleather (at Gulf Harbour)
