{ It was blurry, after the haze of pain passed. Blurry and broken and w r o n g. The chaos was a roar in Alfendi's mind and was all gone now, there were paramedics and other police and he had a blanket. Why did he have the blanket? What was it for?! He focused on the blanket for a long time. It was heavy, like the one he used at home when he panicked. Panic. Alfendi wasn't panicking, why did he have this? Or was he? His vision was tainted with red blotches. He was sitting somewhere. Lucy-- Where was Lucy? }
{ Despite the hurt, the pain coursing through him, he wandered around the scene. There were marked off places where bodies had already been moved. His memory blocked of the exact location of Lucy, but he still felt warm. Warm, her warm, the tea and coffee she made and the chipper excitement in her voice when he wandered in late on certain days. She knew him, she knew both sides, knew all of his little puzzle pieces. }
{ His gaze was on his shoes. They were stained with blood. Leaning down, he untied his sneakers and removed them, tying the laces together. He looked up, a phone wire shooting across the dark sky, cutting through the stars. They were beautiful tonight. He tossed his shoes, one toss, watching them twirl around the wire and hang there. }
{ He felt accomplished. }
{ He started to cry now. The kind of sobs that eat you when they come out, choke you of life and keep coming back for more. Alfendi Layton was alone now, in his puzzle piece world, and Lucy Baker had taken all the pieces with her. }

{ He woke next in a hospital room. He was more damaged then he would let on to whom it did concern, but otherwise he was stone. He wasn't talking or eating very much. As if he'd lost something that made him function. }
{ Maybe it was morphine, maybe it was a sleep-drunken haze, but Alfendi was babbling to himself. }
" Y-- Y'know, she was everything to me, I was real messed up before I met her-- So mad all the time-- and she was someone who made me smile-- "
{ Alfendi looked up from his bandaged hands and gasped softly. }
" L-- Lucy--?! "
