New Orleans' damn humidity was going to be what did her in.
Not the constant nausea, not the headaches caused by the power dampening bracelet that, while she was grateful for it, she couldn't wait to be able to take off so that Hank could figure out how to make it stop drilling migraines into her skull; not the joints pain, sensitive gums, or the fact the little peanut had spent the last week sitting on her bladder. No, it was going to be the fucking humidity.
Rogue had tried to keep her pregnancy as a private matter for as long as she could. At first, it had been a secret even to her. With everything that had happened, she would be lying if she said she had been keeping track of when her period was supposed to arrive. It wasn't until it was clear that something was wrong with it, because it had been gone too long to blame it only on stress, that she went and got checked.
Now, her 'stress-induced menstrual delay' was about to celebrate 18 weeks in her belly. And there was no questioning who the father was, the math was simply too perfect. Too exact.
And the last time she'd seen Remy was when they left him to die in the snow.
But others had seen him. Ororo had mentioned that she ran into him stealing. It was that clue which led her back to the thief's lair, feeling as if her last visit had been a lifetime ago. Back in some simpler times, which was insane to even think about because nothing involving her was ever simple. These being the circumstances in which she was trying to deliver what should be wonderful news was proof enough of that.
Anna Marie still wore the gloves and the long sleeves, because a girl's gotta keep herself safe and so long as people believed it wasn't safe to touch her, she was fine. And a jacket too damn warm for this damn humidity because the Peanut was an attention seeking little diva, just like their father, and couldn't be made to wait any longer before starting to make its presence known with the telltale swell of her stomach.
"Tell Lebeau that Rogue's here to talk." her face betrayed none of the turmoil that rampaged within. "And that I ain't in the mood to be kept waitin'."
