Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Happy Thorsday - Blindvidr, The Hidden Tree
Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic) mythological characters. This week it’s Blindvidr / Blindvthr / Blindvitsr, the Dwarven (Dverg / Dvergr / Dwarf). Literally, the blind tree, or blind board, or blind slat. It’s generally translated to mean the hidden tree. The meaning behind this could either be his more forest spirit / elf like role as a guardian of a grove with a sacred tree. A craftsman of wood with hidden knowledge in a society more focused on stone. Or being know for his wood armor. Or being good at hiding among the trees. Or a little mix of these. Not much else beyond his name is known. Who knows maybe he was just good at cutting shingles and boards.
