Prompt 4: Reflection
Prompt 4: Reticent - FFxiv Write 2024 Characters: Vedastus and Edarien Secariot. Content Warning: None
His nephew’s time in Sharlayan taught Vedastus plenty. Edarien Secariot was impossible to read and infuriating to deal with. Vedastus burned every last contact he had to get his nephew the sentence he did and not a whit of happiness batted through those pale blue eyes on hearing the outcome. The urge to strangle him only grew.
“Have you been across the sea, Uncle?”
Edarien’s flat voice startled Vaast, the tea cup in his hand clattering down against the saucer. The moment court ended, Vaast took his two nephews to his home in Sharlayan, saw them made more than comfortable and gave them time to adjust to being outside a gaol cell once more. Deportation was a mere two or three days away, sooner for Viper. The court demanded the airship crew ready the ship and depart as soon as they were capable. The morning proved to be when they would bid Viper and his fiance goodbye. Edarien, however, waited on a ship to take him across the ocean to distant lands.
“I’ve not, no. Some of my gleaners have though. I can arrange for you to speak with them if you like?” Vaast cast a glance toward the house. “Kasimir might have a tale or two to tell, come to think of it, but nothing recent.”
Edarien waved a hand in dismissal. “Mm, don’t bother him. I’ll ask later.”
Vedastus nodded and let the silence spread between them. The two duskwights focused more on sipping their tea and picking at their lunches than trying to make more conversation. Given time, he hoped his nephew might open up. The man had been alone with his demons far too long.
