On a lazy Sunday I went Castle spotting in Scotland. This aerial oblique shot was taken facing south-west and conveys the impressive fortress of Dunnottar Castle. The “dun” is Pictish for fort, further referencing the nature of the place. The castle held true to the name, and famously held out against Cromwell’s army for eight months with only a small garrison. Further, it seems many a notable person such as William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, the Marquis of Montrose and the future King Charles II have graced the Castle with their presence.
