Maenara is the third child of Prince Maekar Targaryen and Dyanna Dayne, and the twin sister of Aerion. She’s younger than Aerion by just a few minutes.

She’s a massive history nerd, and her favourite historical figure is Good Queen Alysanne. She loves to spend most of her time reading in the library.

All of her siblings except Aerion call her “Nara”. Aerion refuses, because he sees it as “butchering her beautiful Valyrian name”.

Even after being told no by Maekar, Aerion believes that he and Maenara will get married. It’s not that Aerion loves her or is even attracted to her, he just believes that since she’s his twin, he owns her. He often follows her around and makes her uncomfortable, tormenting her and whispering horrible things to her about what their married life will be like (let’s just say it wouldn’t be fun for her).

Daeron, on the other hand, actually is in love with her, and feels immensely guilty for it (remember, this is the least incesty time in Targaryen history, so brother-sister marriage is a lot less normalised). He’s never said anything though, since he knows that she doesn’t feel the same way, and that he could never make her happy. She’d wouldn’t be able to stop the dragon dreams and would end up having to care for him, and she’d be miserable. The only reason he’d decide to marry her would be if Maekar decided to marry her to Aerion, and Daeron would put himself forward as an alternative to save her from Aerion’s abuse.

Like her brothers, she was given a dragon egg as a baby, and hers is purple and gold. (I like to think the girl Maekarlings also got eggs even though it’s not been mentioned)

When she was a young girl, she was set to go and foster with her mother’s family at Starfall. Her mother died before she was scheduled to leave, and her father wanted to keep all of his children together after the death of his beloved wife.

Baelor is her favourite uncle, and she has wished on multiple occasions that he was her dad.

She has a severe burn scar on her upper right arm. From her shoulder to her elbow is completely covered with this burn. It was a “gift” from Aerion after she angered him when they were children. She manages to keep this a secret from pretty much everyone — and if anyone sees it, she tells them that it was caused by an accident with a candle.

Her best friend is a maid named Elara, who has been in Maenara’s life since she was a young girl. Elara is kind of like a big sister figure to her, and Maenara goes to her for advice.

Maenara is brought alone to Ashford by her father in hopes that he will be able to find her a husband. She dines one night with Lyonel Baratheon — the two of them are far too different and Lyonel ends up rejecting her — and she dances with Triston Tyrell, eldest son and heir of Leo Longthorn — he’s polite and charming to her face but she hears him joking with his friends afterwards about her being “more of a sow than a dragon”. Even Lord Ashford tries to shoot his shot to secure a Targaryen marriage alliance for one of his sons, but Maekar finds the idea laughable.

Baelor — who is Maenara’s favourite uncle, like she’s genuinely said to herself "I wish Uncle Baelor was my dad" on multiple occasions — decides to ask Maenara to come and serve his wife Jena as a lady-in-waiting (assuming she’s still alive, the wiki doesn’t say) so she has a chance to get away from her dad and siblings for a bit.
