We would not have made it up to Uhuru Peak if it weren't for this Masterly and Superb TEAM from Duma Explorers!!! These gents are all local Tanzanian and many were born and raised on the slopes of Mt Meru (a neighboring mountain). They know this mountain inside and out and are literally some of the strongest people I've met! They provided EVERYTHING we needed to make this hike possible and also seem like a holiday and enjoyable and not so much "work" 😉. They are FILLED with so much Aloha Spirit and love that they get to share their homeland with others. We had a team of 22 just for the 4 of us, which is normal and required, but still so crazy to think about! They love their jobs and love Kili! I don't speak Swahili, but when listening to what they were saying they're singing about the route we took (Macahme) and all the camp sites up to Uhuru peak! Also you'll hear "Hakuna Matata," which most of us know from the Lion King mean "No Worries". They say this phrase all day long and live by it, which I love! They also say "Pole Pole" (po-leh po-leh), which is a phrase they say about a thousand times a day to remind you to go slowly. Their strategy for you to make it up is to go slow and steady... and yes it works! They all made our trip so memorable and we couldn't feel more blessed or thankful! #dumaexplorer #kilimanjaro #kili #machameroute #tanzania #africa #hakunamatata #polepole (at Kilimanjaro Mountain Machame Route)
