re: spamton is not a mailman- fully in hater mode but this is why "undertale versions" of spamtenna annoy me. In concept its cute and people make really cute designs, but spamton wouldnt be a mailman in undertale. his ass running a "rival" store to Gerson's in the dump and he is selling trash from the pile at a mark-up of 300% and would fight you for trying to haggle with him. thank you for reading my tedtalk.
No youre absolutely right. Barring some physical design changes I'd even say his deal would be nigh identical to his appearance in chapter 2 lmao. The mailman undertale au design comes from the trash heap sprite, where theres a broken TV and a broken mailbox side by side. So like, of course they'd extrapolate based on tennas description.
It reminds me a lot of a chip on the shoulder i had with the intermission fandom back in the day. They'd take Caliborn's description of the felt as "frogs" entirely face-value and make them amphibian-like, even though they're described much more aptly by more reliable narrators as "elves" and the whole *point* was that caliborn was calling them anything that was green. Because theyre green and caliborn is stupid.
And when you complain about these things you end up looking like the spoilsport canon-compliance loser who wont let anyone have fun but like my counterpoint is that sometimes the thing you're running away with.... is worse. And makes the thing you're interested in more shallow and less unique and if you explored it in the right way maybe it could be good but you're not giving it the necessary nuance and implications.
And for Spamton it gets to me more i guess because we had 4 years of very solid and well-established character arc for him, of which him being a salesman is *pivotal*. Dare I say it, before chapter 3 dropped it was Thee only thing people who weren't into deltarune knew about him. Then some people who dropped in 8 months ago ignore all that dont give a shit about it and are playing toys with the tv calling him a mailman and calling themselves spamton fans YOU KNOW NOTHINGGG YOU KNOW NOTHINGGG
