“It’s never enough though, is it?”
You tried. That’s all he’s ever done with his life, really. Tried. Weighing the attempts against the successes is a futile effort -- the scales are forever imbalanced. The drive to always do what he believes to be write has netted him little but disappointment and death, with the effort of striving to live by that credo the only real thing he has to show for it. God, has Miles tried. Tried to tell the truth, tried to help people, tried to make a difference, tried to be a good son and a decent partner and--
And where has any of it really gotten him? The life that he lives now -- if a life it can be considered at all -- is a far cry from the one he’d once imagined or wanted for himself. Fame and accolades had never been on his radar, but he could have lived happily with the self-satisfaction of a job well done. But he doesn’t even have that comfort.
After everything, Murkoff still exists, and Miles is still broken.
“I’m tired of trying. Tired of getting up just to get beat back down again. Tired of... I’m just tired.”
