So I have a bit of an obsession with turn of the century New York City, and, at the time when I started this WIP, the musical Newsies—which happens to be set in the same period. So like anyone who has a deep hyperfixation, I had to write some fanfic and came up with this story about a recent Italian immigrant, Amalia, who moves in with her family and makes friends with one of the newsboys featured in the musical, Spot Conlon. This ends up being handy when Amalia's family is targeted by an extortion group and she and Spot work together to take the group down. Crime/mystery isn't really my genre, so I haven't gotten into any of the actual meat of the story, but the set up and details about the city are fun to write!
