Pairs Well With…Yo La Tengo, Guided By Voices, The Vasolines
The biggest change in DTCV’s 2016 record Confusion Moderne is the language, as the cross-Atlantic band sings completely in French on this one, further blurring their inviting pop/rock air alongside airy feedback and art rock drive. It’s the fuzziest offering to date too, opening up DIY energy with musical distance from the band’s garage rock base.
2014 Review: Post-punk rock is an underrepresented genre on the OEB radars, but there’s something so ambitious and yet still together about DTCV’s latest, Hilarious Heaven, that is worth a fuller listen than most. DTCV, a trio that includes Guylaine Vivarat (Useless Keys, Tennis System) and James Greer (Guided By Voices), is a fairly straightforward indie rock at its heart, heavy on riffed out breakdowns and roadhouse guitar solos. What really makes Hilarious Heaven stand out is the experimental detours, from the emotional French ballad “Contre Jour” to the eleven-minute freak-out “How Not To Be”. A series of well-placed transition tunes really pull the record together into a front-to-back listen.
