As they rushed over to extricate the calf from the water hole he was stuck in, his very concerned mother charged from a nearby bush and chased them off. Dusk was falling and, knowing that time was of the essence, the team contacted our DSWT/KWS Amboseli Mobile Veterinary Unit for help. It took all hands on deck, but the Unit was able to remove the calf and then, racing the setting sun, they set their sights to reuniting him with his mother. With the pint-sized passenger loaded in the back of a pickup — he even joined in the search, trumpeting as loudly as his little trunk could manage — they scoured the land until they found her a short distance away.
