Luke has always done better with longform interviews than promo junkets, so it’s great that his team makes sure to book at least one long interview per project. We get great insight into who he is as an actor and person everytime, moreso than we do in press junkets.
I think people are getting tired of these click-bait promo interviews looking for viral clips or sound bites. People really noticed how bad it was for Fantastic Four promo, and again with that clip of the Materialist director who was asked about a funny letterboxd review. Luke was asked so much garbage over the S3 tour, mostly about his “glow up” or sex, so it’s nice whenever he gets the chance to direct the conversation.
And for Luke especially I think it speaks to accessibility. This format gives him a chance to gather his thoughts and respond with substance, whereas the quick junkets with their little games put him at a disadvantage because of his ADHD and Dyslexia. He needed time to process and unfortunately that caused him to recede, defaulting to not speaking as much in the end, which is a real shame because he IS a yapper in solo interviews, even when others take the lead in group settings. Ableist haters have no idea what it’s like to be more eloquent in some settings and stumble over your thoughts in others, but Luke is intelligent and thoughtful, which comes across in his performances, and I’m glad these interviews capture that.
