Quick Design Solution
Our Problem:
Animal Agriculture has led to an environmental crisis. Specifically, cattle farming which uses extreme amounts of land, water and grain. As well as is one of the leading producers of pollution.
Solution:
We must get humans to eat less beef, in order to lower the demand. It is not necessary to eradicate beef eating completely but to lower it significantly. Our design solution was to put warning labels on beef packaging. These could say things like “Beef is known to increase the risk of cancer”.
Another idea was to put the statistics of the impact of cattle farming on the packaging. For example, it could state that “If we fed people with the grain we feed cows, we could feed 70% more humans or 4 billion more people” as well as “9000 litres of water was used to make this pound of beef - that over 150 showers.”
Our last solution is quite extreme but we hoped to appeal to the emotional side of people if they do not respond to the statistics. In this case, an image of a cow will be placed on each packaging with the caption “hi, my name was...” and each of these will have different names and different cow photos of the actual cattle that was farmed.
