I'm here for peggy/howard/rebecca headcanons?????
BUCKLE UP MY BOY you're going to regret asking this so much
so everyone goes away after steve goes into the ice and the war ends, right??? (right??? right.) so peggy, howard and rebecca make a pact to meet up at least once every year (it was supposed to be on the anniversary of steve's crash but howard firmly shot down that idea and so they meet on new year's instead)Â
and they do this every year, no matter what, even when rebecca's married and in new mexico
but one year peggy and howard are at howard's house, waiting for her to show up and it's getting really late so they call her house, wanting to check that she left safely. susan answers and tells them she's at the hospital (and they're like oh god!! what's happened?!) but it's okay, she's having her baby and it's sad because they won't all be together this year but rebecca's always wanted kids and they're really happy for her
but the next year she doesn't turn up either and howard just gets a christmas card from her with a picture of the baby in (but... it doesn't seem like her handwriting... and the 'season's greetings' is very... unlike her)
and this happens year after year and peggy gets so busy with shield, howard has his own kid and eventually the new year's thing just... stops happening (they stopped getting cards from rebecca years ago anyway)
and then the year that rebecca dies (they find out through a tiny story in the news) they decide that instead of going to the funeral (because fuck the town that let her die, seriously,) they're going to reinstate their old new year's tradition of getting very drunk and singing showtunes (howard used to play guitar, rebecca would sing, and peggy would conduct... drunkenly. it's an omage to the days where they'd try and keep each other entertained (and embarrass steve, it was their favourite hobby) during the days at the war base
maria walks in an hour before midnight to find peggy standing on a desk and singing and howard doing perfectly remembered choreography to "the star spangled man with a plan"
cut forward many many years and it's the avenger's new year's party and for some reason tony and bruce have decided that tonight is the night they're going to embarrass steve into the next century so bruce gets out his guitar (different headcanon for a different day sorry), tony lines up one of the old black and white videos of steve in his early performing days and they recruit sharon to sing
steve is embarrassed as hell but when he looks at the three of them it feels like having peggy, becca and howard back. just for a little while.
