Welcome to Oakland, the land of funk and the dope fiend beat. 1993 was a bomb ass year for the city of dope; Too Short was an established veteran making the best rap of his career, 2Pac’s slow burning sophmore album produced 2 smash singles by the end of the year, new exciting artists like Dru Down & The Coup were popping up and then there was this whole other thing happening with Heiroglyphics. And dozens of dope regional tapes too!

After watching last night’s Bay Area Verzuz battle, I’m revisiting some of these Bay Area classic albums. And before anyone says Master P isn’t from the Bay, he lived here in Richmond, CA and started his career here. As for 2Pac, y’all know we definitely claim him here in Marin and Oakland. Bay Area sound influences and rap artists like E-40, Richie Rich, Rappin’ 4-Tay & more were all over this album.
