MEET THE #TEAM! We'd like to introduce Julien! Julien loves things like music, gardening, being active and enjoying anything outdoors. After many international trips and a few years living abroad, Julien recognized a very dramatic increase in the use and disposal of plastics. It was depressing and he found himself trapped by it in almost every activity he took part in. He knew the environment was hurting. Dedicated to a decision to stand by Mother Earth, Julien found that the only real way to reach people - especially with language barriers - was to lead by example and send a positive message with each interaction. After returning home Julien expressed his ideas to Emily, and Drop Dead Plastic was born! With a goal of educating and influencing those around him with positive and powerful leadership Julien seeks to include everyone in a life without plastic waste. Emily had a headstart and was taught early the importance of reducing plastic consumption. She has pursued this foundational belief in her academic, professional, and personal endeavors. Emily finds the most value in ACTION which drives her passion for Drop Dead Plastic, and its vision to empower others to make meaningful changes within the learned patterns of their own lives. She is passionate that leading by example is the best way to influence change and she strives to do her best to show others how good life can be without plastics! Like any big change, especially one that has become so trendy (isn't it great that environmentally conscious behaviours can be trendy??), there is always going to be backlash. We've heard various opinions: "It's not actually going to make a difference", "People are only jumping on board because it's trendy". DropDeadPlastic doesn't really care WHAT your motivations are - any plastic reduction (in our mind) is a good thing! And while straws are a small piece of a greater problem, we are so excited that people are TALKING about the issue. That's how change begins! We love this sign because it acknowledges that while most of us have ZERO NEED for a straw, there are still individuals out there who do. Making change still needs to be accessible and we support those who create a space that is both mindful of unnecessary waste, but also inclusive of all individual needs.
