Len’s book, 1 Angel Square, is available here, and is packed with fantastic photos of the construction and insightful essays on the area that the building is situated in.

One of the things that came up in the discussion was the idea of ‘pragmatic innovation’, which was difficult concept to nail down, but the gist of it was that in the design of the building, the Co Op and the architect wanted to use technology that already exists to create a sustainable building. But don’t quote me on that.

  Anyway, you know those three funnels at the base of the building? Well each one sucks in fresh air into the building, and the three of them together pump 50,000 litres of air into the building per second. PER SECOND. Amazing.

  Another thing I did this week was hang out at Studio 25 in Manchester City Centre. Studio 25 is a dance studio in the city centre and provides space for dancers, as well as being the home of Shockout Dance Academy, as well as other dance courses.

The reason I was there was to photograph a dance workshop run by dancers Lukas Macfarlane and Stephen Aspinall, an event organised by dancer and good friend of mine Abi Oliver. It was a great event afternoon, not least because Lukas recently won Sky One’s ‘Got To Dance’ (if you’re unfamiliar with it, it’s like the dance equivalent of X Factor, except for amazingly talented dancers).

It was great to be able to watch both Lukas and Stephen teach, and being able to photograph the two of them working was brill. It’d be great to shoot them again!
