Summary: experiencing limbo, you are pulled back to your reality. Knowing what caused your pain, leaves no limit to a parent's rage. [ part 1 ]
Knock, knock, knock on the gates of hell.
Endless nothingness. Voice lost in the void. A strange feeling inside yourself. Like you were here and there. Some vastness keeping you bounded yet when you looked below. Your feet hovered above the nothingness.
You could feel the sturdy touch underneath your feet. Not confirmed for it was clear you were not touching ground. Coldness sweeping in, frosting your toes and fingers. Complete nothingness. A sense of absolute nothing within you.
You couldn't feel anything. Just numb. Indifferent. No identity. Beep. Eyes staring dully before you. Beep. What had come before? What was your name? Did you even had one? Sense of before slipping away. Was there even a before or had you always been here?
Beep. Your muscles untensed with a deep exhale. Beep. Beep. Flashing your gaze up, you became aware. Something felt different. Beep. Squinting your eyes, a variety formed in the distance. Blurred sights. Small. Beep. Beep. Beep.
Unconsciously your foot moved forwards. Faint gibberish reaching your ears. Beep. Beep. Approaching the blurring in the distance more. Nothingness appearing to have an end. The closer you got, the clearer the gibberish became.
Whispers of voices. Two distinguished. "Come home... please wake up darling." A man's voice reaching your ears. Nothing but indifference within. Reaching a clearer view. Wider as you could tell silhouettes apart. Beep. Beep.
A figure hunched over by a bed. Another figure standing up, hand down on a back. Your gaze turned towards the bed they were beside. Seeing someone must be laying in it. "Find your way to us Y/n." This time a woman's voice.
The scenery had spread as wide as your eyes could see. You simply had to reach your hand out and you could touch the bed easily. Eyes staring at the body in the bed. Tilting your head softly, wondering who it could be.
Their voices coming through once more, sharp and clear. Beep. Beep. Beep. The woman's gaze turned looking your way. Your way. "Come home." The faintest of whispers.
Your hand reached out to her, somehow compelled to obey her. Your hand went down to the bed, fingers touching vast ground. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
The machine monitored, your eyes flashing open with a loud gasp. Staring bewildered and confused around you. Two familair faces settling with recognition. Mom and dad.
Ed gasped, jumping up from his chair. Making way as he hurried into the hallway. Shouting for a doctor. Lorraine rushed to your bed, coming to sit at the edge. Pulling you up against her chest. Cradling you in her embrace.
"My girl... my girl..." crying out, her hand brushing your hair. Ed returned into the room, exhaling relieved. Slowly he approached you as well. Wrapping his arms around you. Kissing the top of your head, then his wife's with reassurance.
Ed and Lorraine stood away when the doctor was at your side. Ed nervously biting down his thumb. Waiting for news. "She'll need rest, but she'll recover." Were the doctor's words before leaving the room once more.
"Mom..." you spoke with a hoarse voice. Lorraine obliged immediately. Brushing her hand down your cheek. "It's alright Y/n. You will be alright." You could see the tears in her eyes forming. Knowing she was keeping herself strong for you.
Lorraine could see you were looking around the room, searching. "Judy is with Drew down the hall, enjoying some snacks." She reassured you, brushing some hair behind your ear. Ed came nearer too, pulling the chair closer to the bed.
"Honey... I'm sorry we left... we shouldn't have left... we should've been home with you and Judy for this might not have happened then." There was no denying the sniffling between his words. Your mind still felt hazy.
With his words, you actively tried to remember what was before. What had happened before. There were flashes of your parents driving off. Judy and you by the tv. Then there was the door. The sight of it made you clutch for your heart, wincing in pain.
"What is it?" Ed spoke with worry, cluthing your hand firm. Ready to call the doctor. With one firm grip of Lorraine he remained seated. Lorraine clasped both her hands around yours. Bringing it up to kiss it. A single tear rolling down her cheek. "You've seen darkness my darling." She let out with sorrow.
Ed looked frantically from his wife to you. "This was no mere heart attack was it?" He wanted clarified. He already knew the answer. A heart attack at such a young age was nearly impossible. Lorraine let out a loud sob, lowering her forehead against your entangled hands.
"This is our fault... our fault." She cried out, sputtering out her words. Ed brought his wife against his chest, comforting her. "Lorraine what do you mean?" He asked, wiping some hairs out of her face. Already sticking with tears to her cheeks.
"Our house." Was her response. Ed didn't understand at first. Till it slowly came to him. He turned his attention to you, kissing the top of your head. "Stay with Y/n." He got up, making his statement clear. Lorraine blinked confused when he went for the door.
She got up, wiping her tear away. "Where are you going?" She demanded to know. "To make sure it doesn't happen again." A finalizing of his words. Lorraine got up as well. "Not without me." The tone in her voice clear. "Lorraine, I need you to stay with our little girl." Ed let her know.
Even though you weren't that little anymore, it left a fuzzy feeling within you that he referred to you like that again. "She's awake!" Judy's sudden voice pitched through. Happily she ran to your bed with Drew right behind her.
Judy had crawled up the bed with you, snuggling against you. "Hey warrior." Drew spoke gently pressing his fist against your shoulder. Ed looked at the scenery, then to Lorraine. Lorraine shook her head, trying to make him change his mind.
"Drew stay with my girls." He adressed before taking his leave. Lorraine went after him into the hallway. "Okay." Drew managed to get out, not sure any of your parents had heard. Ed noticed Lorraine following in his step.
"Go back inside." He called over his shoulder. Lorraine less obeying as he wanted. She followed him headstrong towards the car. Getting inside. Having no intention to leave. Ed sighed loud, starting the car for there was no arguing with his wife.
The early sun had begun to set when he arrived at the house. "Ed!" Lorraine shouted when he went straight to the shed. She gasped soft seeing him return with a bat. "Ed! Ed! Ed!" She called out, trying to stop him. Ed pulled her grip away, getting inside.
Going towards the kitchen. Angrily he searched the drawers. "Ed stop!" Lorraine jumped in front of him in his way to the basement. "You don't know what the consequences will be if you do this." Her both hands up by his chest. "This is our lives work." She reminded him.
"That means nothing if it's at the cost of our girls." He responded. Lorraine gazed with conflict back at him. Ed moved Lorraine aside, swinging the basements door open. Going down the wooden steps. Pulling at the cord that would light up the room.
The cord still dangled afterwards as he looked around the room. "Who was it?" He called out, tightening his grip around the bat. "Who tried to kill my little girl?" Turning around, he pointed his bat at an object behind a glass case.
His jaw tensed, taking a sharpening breath, bringing the bat upwards. Lorraine screamed startled when the bat came swinging at the glass case. Shards shattering around.
Ed swiftly spun around, taking another swing at a different case. "Tell me!" His voice raging with the next swing. Materials clattering to the ground. Lorraine clutched her necklace upon Ed's rage.
A rage she hadn't seen within him. The bat swinging and wrecking away. Ed shouting with terror. Taking an exhausting breath, he let the bat clatter to the ground. Stumbling to a bag of his standing by the side.
Taking a bottle out of it, he loosened the top. Splashing the holy water around at the clutter. Lorraine's eyes widened when he pulled out the matches, already lighting it. "Ed!" She called out in a panic that he might burn the house down.
Ed shrugged her hand off. "To hell." He said, dropping the match. Within a few moments it caught fire. Flickering, Ed not looking away from it. For who hurt his daughter was sure to receive hell.
