I need to know why more people haven’t read Dreamsnake by Vonda N. McIntyre. Like. For real. How is it not a widely known classic. How is it not appearing in lists of feminist and queer science fiction. How come I’m finding out about this book now.
Also. I have the theory that Ursula K. Le Guin took inspiration from this book for Tehanu. That perhaps she even was influenced by McIntyre’s way of approaching storytelling as a woman. This book is Le Guin’s essay The Carrier Bag of Fiction incarnate. And it was written in the 70s. It got the Hugo, Nebula and Locus. I’m only halfway through it but I already think it’s magnificent and radical even for our current age. Plus, McIntyre and Le Guin were acquainted with each other.
