Speed Work - FTW
On my way home as I looked out my car window it looked like this:
...and as much as I wanted to pretend that it was sunny and 75 the reality was that it was much more like sunny and 45 with 15 - 20 mph wind gusts!! Don't get me wrong, I love the cold sunny weather but running with the cold winds to boot....
NO THANKS!
So I sucked down one of these:
and hit the Y for an hour of speed work!
I haven't done any speed work since about 3 weeks before the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Half when I injured my calf so was really hankering to see what my body could do.
I felt aweseme tonight! I had a good attitude going in to my run!! I was inspired by posts that I had read earlier from Robin and Ariavie. I was inspired by the video that I had seen just moments before walking out the door...
So here is how it panned out: (btw I kinda suck at this stuff so if there is a better way to post it PLEASE send me a private message to tell me how)
.50 mile warm up at 4.0 (15:00 pace)
.25 mile @ 7.0 (8:34 pace)
.25 miles @ 6.4 (9:22 pace) x 2
.25 miles @6.6 (9:05 pace) x 2
.25 miles @6.7 (8:57 pace) x 2
.25 miles @6.8 (8:49 pace) x 2
.25 miles @6.9 (8.41 pace) x 2
.25 miles @7.0 (8:34 pace) x 2
.20 cool down
(there were .10 mile recovery walks between each 1/4 mile run)
SPLITS
Mile 1 = 13:42
Mile 2 = 10:78
Mile 3 = 10:63
Mile 4 = 10:29
Mile 5 = 9:98
TOTAL CALORIES BURNED = 570
I pushed the first 1/4 mile at the 8:34 and it SUCKED and was HARD. But as I went back up to the 9:22 pace and worked my way back there I found that it was easier and that the last two felt good. Next time I will push a little harder and shoot for at least one 1/4 mile sprint at a sub 8:30 pace!!
