It’s 1:30 in the morning and I’ve been researching Gundham Tanaka for hours now, compiling information and putting them in a drive document- including highlighting important information.
This may sound excessive, but. Tanaka’s way of speaking is so convoluted, I’m connecting information from every section of each game he’s in, including information from V3, and connecting the dots in between all his appearances so I can form a better idea of his overall character, before diving into this (definitely long) fanfiction I plan to write.
For example, Tanaka throws out a ton of throwaway lines that don’t sound like they mean anything-- until you see it brought up 2 other times through all the events of speaking to him. Then you realize, what he was saying is accurate, and probably very much related to his real life events. Because he’s so mistrusting towards people, he’s extremely stubborn about being direct about any information about himself- but I think I’m picking a lot of it out and making sense of a lot of stuff that I didn’t realize when I played the game the first time.
I love him more and more. And I’m very serious about writing him properly and doing the best job I can to make whatever version of him I write, as close and accurate to in-game Tanaka as possible.... while also giving him some room to grow and be fleshed out into a more human character. We only saw the persona he created, and pushed outwards towards other people- and himself. But he’s still human, with fears, hopes, dreams, ect ect. That’s what I want to explore. The human Tanaka that he pretends isn’t there. And.
Man I love him I’m sorry I’ll go to bed.

I’m on archive of our own now, if you ever wanna read my fanfiction! I just got accepted this morning. ^^
I have a great idea for a DR2 fic, but to do it, I have to go back through the game, and pay super dang close attention to how Tanaka interacts with EVERY single person in the game. I’ll be writing Tanaka as the main character, and I’m gonna take a ton of notes. The fic will flip back and forth between Tanaka current day, and Tanaka in the past. And it’ll have some basis with a pretty dang sad rp I’m doing with some friends. I want to get Tanaka Gundham as ACCURATE as I can when I write him, and as many who have played the games know..... he’s kind of absolutely ridiculous, and he speaks like a lunatic.
But. There is so much more depth to his character then it seems at first. And I want to characterize it. And I want to play with some genuinely traumatic things that SDR2 brings up, but never really explores. Tanaka would interact with all the other characters, both in the past, and in the present. I just. I really. REALLY. Love what I’m brainstorming here. I do comics more then fics, but. Is this somethin you’d be interested in?
Yooo if you don’t want spoilers for Super Dangan Ronpa 2, I HIGHLY ADVISE you block the ‘#sdr2 spoilers’ tag. I did a really damn funny comic but it is just a giant mass of spoilers. I’ll have it post tomorrow tho
