Dryads – Tree spirits in Greek mythology
Dryads are wood nymphs and tree spirits who live in trees. Their names come from the Greek word Drys, meaning oak. Often their life force was connected to the tree in which they resided and they were usually found in sacred groves of the gods. They scourge those who harm the trees without paying respect to the tree spirits.
Dryads rarely appear in public, but to beautiful men and boys, they sometimes reveal themselves as beautiful green-haired daughters who seduce them and drag them into the trees. Just one day spent there can result in decades or centuries passing outside.
Dryads are known for fiercely guarding trees and these types of fae believe it’s their duty to punish anyone who commits crimes against nature and their wrath is not something you want to encounter.
It’s often said if the tree a Dryad is protecting dies, so would the Dryad.

ドリュアデス 〜 ギリシャ神話の中の木の精霊たち
ドリュアスたちは木の精であり、木の中に住んでいる精霊である。彼らの名前は、ギリシャ語で樫の木を意味するDrysに由来している。多くの場合、彼らの生命力は住んでいる木と結びついており、彼らは通常、神々の聖なる木立の中で見かけられ、木の精霊に敬意を払うことなく木を傷つける人間をこらしめるのである。
ドリュアスたちは普段は人前に姿を現すことは滅多にないが、美しい男性や少年に対しては緑色の髪をした美しい娘の姿を現し、相手を誘惑して木の中に引きずり込んでしまうことがあるという。そこで一日を過ごしただけで、外では何十年、何百年もの時が経過している場合がある。
ドリュアスたちは木を守ることで知られており、この種の妖精は、自然に対して罪を犯す者を罰することが自分たちの義務であると考えており、その怒りは決して遭遇したくないものだろう。
あるドリュアスが守っている木が枯れたら、そのドリュアスも一緒に枯れると言われている。
