Character Interview Tag game!
Tagged by @inkwellprincess!
Guidelines: Answer these 12 questions in the voice and manner of your character(s) and then tag as many or as few writeblrs as you would like.
Iâm going to do one from each of my WIPs.
Dav (The Emperorâs Stone)
Dranolin (Scalba of the Talanari)
Gabriel (Their Trust In The Flesh)
Ned (The Merry Bards of Mothercreek)
1. What did you have for breakfast?
Dav:Â Cold roast mutton. Dranolin:Â I donât remember. Something light. Gabriel:Â I fasted today as I have every day for many months in hopes that the people will forsake their arrogance. Ned:Â A lovely toasted cheese. I finished Jonâs, too. He didnât find the cheese to his liking.
2. Who was the last person you crushed on?
Dav:Â [sighs mournfully] Narta. Dranolin:Â [furrows brow] Ko, I suppose. Gabriel:Â Elisabeth, my wife of one hundred years. Ned:Â A lovely girl named Ashlea. No idea where she is now, but I wonder if she thinks about me.
3. What is your favorite read?
Dav:Â Oh, thatâs much too difficult to choose. Dranolin:Â The histories of Talanar-- up to a point. The rest brings sour memories. Gabriel:Â All the words of the prophets. Iâm especially fond of the writings of the Firstfather Michael. Ned:Â Love poetry. Thane has excellent taste in love poetry, but he favors dwarvish literature while I find more joy in the music of the elves.
4. Do you put both socks on first, or one sock, one shoe?
Dav:Â Both... what? Socks? Shoes? What are those? Dranolin:Â Both stockings first. Gabriel:Â I wear sandals. Ned:Â I put on both stockings first.
5. What can you cook perfectly?
Dav:Â I can blacken anything you put in my hands. Dranolin:Â I can prepare a hundred meals without the use of fire and four dozen with it. The importance is the ability to use limited resources effectively. Gabriel:Â I can prepare a delicious meal from any assortment of fruits, vegetables, grains, and a freshly killed lamb or deer. Ned:Â Jon taught me how to make a lovely stew. I add the most wonderful spices I can find!
6. If you could choose a pet, what would it be?
Dav:Â A cougar cub. Dranolin:Â I have a dragon. I have no need for other animal companionship. Gabriel:Â [chuckles and looks at nearly-completed ark] Iâm going to have a great many animal companions very soon. Ned:Â A hound! We can roll in the fields together!
7. How is your relationship with your parents?
Dav:Â Good. Dranolin:Â I never knew my birth parents. The people they left me with raised me lovingly until they were slaughtered in a massacre by the Cult of Blood. Gabriel:Â My father was a wise and a righteous man, and my mother was virtuous and steadfast. I wish there were more people like unto them. Ned:Â My father told me to get out of his house until I wanted to do something with my life. I want to be a minstrel, so I suppose that means Iâm always welcome!
8. How do you feel about marriage?
Dav:Â Hopefully it will happen to me someday. Dranolin:Â I want to marry a Talanari. Ko isnât interested in becoming one. Sheâs a good mother for Scalba regardless. Thereâs no impropriety, since Scalba is not my seed. Gabriel:Â It is essential for exaltation and mortal happiness. Ned:Â [sighs blissfully] It sounds lovely.
9. Do you fold your clothes before bed?
Dav:Â Iâm confused again. Dranolin:Â When I have a bed to lay down in. Gabriel:Â Yes. Ned:Â Oh yes, every night. Jon thinks Iâm a dandy for it.
10. What does your dream home look like? And where would it be?
Dav:Â A modest mansion. Dranolin:Â Any house, however humble, overlooking the coastline of a Talanar restored to its rightful state of glory and tradition. Gabriel:Â I am content with the home I have. I am, however, grieved that I will soon lose it. Ned:Â A cozy cottage where I can play the fiddle for my wife and seven children.
11. Whatâs your worst habit?
Dav: Overthinking is the only kind of thinking Iâm capable of. Dranolin: Sometimes I allow my anger to cloud my judgement. I doubt thatâs my worst habit, because whenever I learn what my worst habit is, I take swift measures to correct it. Gabriel: I have moments where I question why the Allfather allows his children to grow so wicked. But ultimately, we must all have the freedom to choose, or this life is wasted and unjust. Ned: Jon says Iâm âsickeningly naive and optimistic.â
12. What do you do for a living and how do you feel about your job?
Dav:Â I want to be a writer. I have no idea what Iâm going to do for a living, though. Dranolin:Â Iâm a hunter-assassin. Itâs a noble tradition among the Talanari, though I have not met very many hunter-assassins who possess a sense of honor. It affords me the opportunity to take vengeance on certain of my enemies, the Blood Cult and the starknights. Gabriel:Â I am called to preach repentance to the people. It is a futile effort. They are blinded by their much learning. I am also to keep the record of scripture. My tome will be added to the Great Book when I am gone into the next life. Ned:Â Being a musician is the most wonderful thing in the world!

I wouldnât cast an actor who played the inspiration for one of my characters as that character. I wouldnât cast Temuera Morrison as Dranolin, or Ben Mendelssohn as Kharrin, or Sam Witwer as Clathâaw.
But I would happily make an exception for Martin Freeman in the role of Digdit Arsaggis.
