@dramatispcrsonae / HENRY & BENEDICT
He’d spoken about it with Colin a few times before -- the fact that second and third sons always had the options of the military and the clergy, occupations that would give them purpose that they did not inherit from birth. Anthony, the eldest male Bridgerton and born heir to the viscount’s title, would never have to consider those options, but Benedict wasn’t sure if he was fortunate or unfortunate in that regard. Most of his life was determined by his birth, his position in the family. Even with all the uncertainty about what Benedict wanted to be -- what he could do, where he could go -- he thought he would prefer that uncertainty over the burden of responsibility any day of the week. He just hoped that, when the time came, he would choose the right paths.
And he rather liked the company of younger sons, like him.
“Good evening, Mr. Tilney,” he said in a casual, cheerful tone, coming up beside the young man. “Enjoying the festivities?”
