Urlae:...But I guess I should explain why.
Urlae: The entirety of Tyria is infused with magic. Magic is intertwined with the ecosystem and the creatures of Tyria, and is just as much a part of them as it is a part of the world itself. Urlae: An individual's innate magical ability seems to be determined, in part at least, by their location in relation to the ley lines that channel magic around the world. Weyther: Focus, Urlae. Urlae: Sorry. The theory is that the natural role of the Elder Dragons is to keep the magic of the world balanced. From time to time, the Dragons awaken, violently consuming the magic of the world and drawing it into themselves, thereby reducing the level of magic through the ley lines.
Then the magic the have consumed bleeds out into the world, harmless unlike when theyāre awake. only for the dragons to eventually awaken once more and the cycle to begin again.
Urlae: The Elder Dragons consumption of magic can lead to Dragon Corruption. Any beings magic can beĀ āeatenā by a Dragon. The theory being that the dragon drops a bit of its own magic into its prey and eats their magic from the inside. Urlae: AĀ āmagical flushā is introducing neutral magic to a beings body in hopes of pushing out corruption.Ā But itās all about how much magic the dragon has eaten inside the body. If thereās more Dragon magic than the hosts magic then...
Lily: So you wonāt do it because...
Urlae: The chances that in trying to rid the corruption I just feed it instead are astronomical.
Weyther: But...there is a chance.
Urlae: ...The chance being the Pact do defeat Zhaitan.Ā
With Zhaitans magic in decline. A flush may be possible then.
On sylvari and cross-corruption
One of the main arguments used in favor of the "sylvari are dragon minions" theory is that they inexplicably cannot be turned into Risen. The main rebuttal is that dragon minionsĀ can be cross-corrupted, as shown in CoE, so if sylvari were minions, they could still become Risen and the like.
Now, I don't subscribe to the sylvari = minions theory, and I especially don't believe the Pale Tree is a dragon champion (what?), butĀ I have two issues with this rebuttal that I'm always too afraid to post because I don't want to be seen as arguingĀ forĀ an idea that is so long-debunked that bringing it up has become a crime punishable by epic facepalming.
