Because opps, the prequel book and the actual book just merged into a parallel narrative that's happening in both times instead of being two books

And oops, the world building just got more complex but also more fun to write about

And oops, a new character has entered the story, implying another new character, and at least two major plot lines I didn't previously suspect.

The people at large are not too keen on turning off the big machine they think is keeping them safe even tho it's actually the thing keeping them trapped!

Whoops, started another novel that's probably secretly a trilogy!

Whoops, the two people who weren't previously supposed to even meet in the other novel, met and are really into each other, and also they together really like talking about world building stuff that'll probs have to be edited (which makes me sad bc it's fun to write)!
