on the shores of dragonstone, jace stood in the surf while waves lapped at his ankles. it had been days since he had narrowly avoided death at the hands of the triarchy and he couldn't stand another moment in bed. so he forced himself up and out of his room, dressing carefully as to not disturb any of the wounds that littered his body. clean bandages decorated his torso while a sling had been tied around his right arm. an arrow had split the bone in two, leaving the prince unable to use his primary hand until he recovered. jacaerys had narrowly avoided death alongside his dragon whom had saved him from drowning while being littered with arrows. he owed vermax his very life.
above him in a purple and pink sky, vermax had also emerged from the dragonmont to join his rider. together they had grown restless, tired of lapping at their own wounds while the world moved on around them. jacaerys watches vermax dance between clouds, undaunted and without hesitation. it was difficult to believe that they had both nearly been claimed by the very sea that jace was currently standing in. he thought it fitting that if he did die it would have been fitting for him to have been swallowed by the ocean like a proper. behind him he can hear the crunch of white sand beneath fine slippers. jacaerys knows that when he turns his mother will be standing there. she had probably went into his chamber to check upon him and must have been concerned to find his bed empty. he turns to face her, doing his best to bow so he might pay his queen the respect she so rightfully deserved. "good morning, your grace." he looked better than he had in days. color had returned to his skin, and he was able to move without the accompaniment of sharp pain.
"before you begin to lecture me, I feel fine. I couldn't remain trapped in my chambers a moment longer." he frowns, "and vermax missed me. I haven't had the energy to properly thank him for saving us both." he says, his statement punctuated by a high and delighted roar from vermax from on high.
