I think it's even more prevalent with mountain engines that only travel up a single mountain their entire career. They probably love every tree, every house and every cool rock along their line.
Like, here's the Drachenfelsbahn (Dragon rock railway) in the German Rhineland.
You bet these little railcar dorks are just super hyped whenever they pass the castle and try their best to look inside on the way down the mountain. They'd fall asleep with smiles if you gave them an audio tour guide to listen to over night at the sheds.
