Dr. Fright - Chapter Five
Summary:Â Honestly the only important part is the letter at the very end so if you want to you can just read that and probably won't miss much. I mean Logan gets introduced but he isn't important, especially if you haven't read the second Dr. Horrible comic book. This is a shitty chapter.
Words: 1017
Contains: Talk of broken bones, and setting said broken bones.
Virgil was laying on his couch two days later covered in cuts and other various injuries unrelated to the incident when he was retrieving the wonderflonium. Black eye, probably a broken finger, and scrapes and tears in his skin that oozed blood, thankfully, telling him that they weren't very serious.
After he had retrieved the wonderflonium, Virgil had to drag himself all the way home and fix his own head (which had thankfully only had a small and very fixable crack), but it was very easy with the serum. He was out of it now though and it got kind of priceyâŚ
He had finished his freeze ray, and found it worked amazingly! Time stopped at the press of a button, and the world was at his fingertips!
Or it would have been, had the freeze ray not have taken it's sweet time warming up when he went to face off against The Prince. Like a complete fool Virgil hard charged in, guns not a-blazing! The Prince didn't even blink as he ripped him off the ground and threw him into a wall. Literally, into a wall. He was lucky he just ended up with the injuries he sustained.
He'd been laying on the couch in mourning. His freeze ray had been broken--snapped in half! That was months upon months of work down the drain in an instant. He didn't know if it was fixable, if he could salvage the wonderflonium from it, if he'd ever be able to to make a new one because wonderflonium is not an easy thing to come by.
He sat up and looked at his hand, and the broken finger. He'd have to set it, but he needs to wait for Thomas to get there to help him. As much as he hates it he admits that he doesn't have the guts (or strength) to do it himself. But he can at least get what he needs.
Having sustained countless injuries in the past, the villain learned to start keeping medical supplies for every type of wound he could think of. He'd probably had them all. His pale body was covered in all kinds of scars and his âcostume" had been repaired and replaced more times than he could count.
Virgil dragged himself to the kitchen. He kept all of his medical supplies in a bottom cupboard because that was the only place that fit all of it. He had slings, bandages, antibiotics, the whole deal. It was like a miniature hospital under his sink. Lucky him, he actually had a finger splint⌠or four.
He snagged what he knew he would need and wandered back to the living room. He dumped everything down on his workbench and looked to his left at a vice that was attached to the table. He turned it to the side.
There was a knock at the door, but before he had time to do anything it opened and Thomas stood in the doorway. He invited himself inside.
âHey, Virge.â He greeted. âI hope you donât mind, but I brought someone with me.â
He moved to the side and behold, a very thin man with gray hair and a sharp face stood behind him. Despite the hair color he looked very young. He had a pair of half moon glasses and dressed very⌠neatly.
âHourglass?â Virgil recognized him. Hourglass was a second-rate antihero. He knew Thomas knew him but he never talked about the other people he knew. Virgil tended to get a little bit jealous, even though Thomas had every right to hang out with other friends and it was a completely stupid thing to be jealous over.
âDr. Fright,â he replied in kind.
âUh, you can just call me Virgil,â he told him.
âThen in that case, you have permission to call me by my name; Logan.â He stepped inside the apartment and Thomas closed the door behind him. Hourglass, or Logan, looked around the home judgmentally. Thomas approached Virgil.
âIâm sorry, I know I should have asked but we were going somewhere when you texted me and he insisted he come inside with me.â
âItâs fine,â the villain mumbled. âCâmere? I canât set this without you.â
Thomas visibly cringed but came forward without protest. Virgil silently placed his hand in between the vice and twisted it, tightening it around his hand. He pulled back. No, he couldnât move away. Thomas stood in front of the vice when Hourglass intervened.
âYouâre going to cause permanent damage to that hand; let me do it.â Virgil looked to him. His eyes were glowing a pale (but bright) blue, and a ring that rest on his left hand was pulsing a white light. Virgil had seen enough of Hourglass through the press to know that he was looking into the future. Thomas was looking at Virgil to see what he wants him to do.
âO-okay,â he agreed hesitantly. Thomas stepped aside as Hourglass--Logan took his place. His eyes continued to glow.
âTell me, what is your favorite color?â
âWhat?â
Slap.
Crack.
A yell.
---
There was a knock at his door later that night, but when Virgil went to go answer it no one was there. There was however a plain white envelope laying on the floor; with a yellow wax seal.
Virgil swiped it up off of the ground and looked down the hallway quickly before closing the door and tearing open the envelope. Oh God, the ELEâŚ
He read it to himself.
Virgil Addams, AKA, Dr. Fright,
We fear that, at your failed attempt to prove your worthiness to us earlier this day, Bad Snake: Founder of the Evil League of Evil, has chosen to decline your application for ELE entry as it currently stands. We however have decided to allow you a second chance; via assassination. All we ask is that you perform the most vile act possible; murder someone. If you fail to do this then we do not fear that we will have to end your life. As you would know, we cannot leave loose ends.
Signed, the Evil League of Evil
