The greatest thing about being a teacher, for sure, is that my kids' first period starts at 7:30. They're supposed to be learning math at 7:30 AM, just as the sun begins to rise.
And now, with the magnificent Daylight Saving Time, their minds and bodies will feel like their first period starts at 6:30! Nevermind that in order to get to school by 7:15 (feels like 6:15), they'll need to be up by 6:30 at the latest (feels like 5:30).
So my students will be waking up two hours before the sunrise (totally natural) and expected to learn geometry while it's still pitch black out. Then, they'll get to take huge standardized tests over it and my effectiveness as a teacher will be judged on their resulting scores by the same general folks who think 6:30 AM is a good time to start learning.
But it's worth it to conserve candle wax and oil (the original reasoning for Daylight Saving Time), and we still get our summers off for crop harvesting (during which time they totally retain everything taught and we don't have to spend the first two months of the next school year reteaching entirely)! Phew.
