This is my all-time favorite artist book. I love alliterations, animals, anthropomorphism, and having to look words up in the dictionary, because who uses “zaftig” in casual conversation? 

This book features beautifully done copperplates of animals doing human things, from Acrimonious Alligator Acrobats to a Zaftig Zebra Zooming Zealously from Zoo. I can’t decide whether my favorite page is the Jaunty Jaguars out for a friendly morning joust before they’ve even had their coffee, the Hippopotamus who’s just dying to serve you their latest blend of tea, or the colophon itself, impressively rendered in alphabetical order and still making (some) sense.
