That Dome fic I wanted to write was about the surface population disappearing because of the fuzzy ooze. Now imagine Inspector Cole gets the report about the incident on their desk at 7am and Alexa, probably the last Inkling alive atp, is in their office, and they're now trying to keep the news from her to protect her. Unfortunately, the Octobot has just came in for repairs after being excavated from the desert, which means there's a pretty high chance someone's gonna spill the beans the longer Alexa spends time in the Engineering Division's hangar repairing it. So what does Cole do? They isolate her and make her take the night shift. But wait! Prof. Hakt is also on the night shift! And he ends up spilling the news and Alexa has a spiral.

Just imagine the Dome AU ended with Inspector Catherine, who at this point has been found guilty of causing the Dome 20 collapse tenish years ago thanks to Alexa and Inspector Cole's digging around in the library files, has taken the Domes hostage under the threat of using the self destruct mechanism and the final fight happened in Dome 2's Nursery, where all the Nursery kids are mysteriously "missing".

Her reason?

There is no future but a rotten, corrupt one.
