And Hastings doesn't even question it, which tells you that these kinds of wild whims are a regular thing with Poirot. He doesn't even blink at it. Free vacation? Time with his favorite Belgian? It doesn't even enter his golden retriever's mind that Poirot is out there to unnerve Japp.
