Maybe the mistake of hoping                never to make mistakes is the only pattern we get to leave behind us: no bells—just a calmness, after; the air so clear, we forget what hurt so much and, in forgetting it, think it’s disappeared.

... But the man was brokenness like any other: moving until it fails to move- the way, overtime, suffering makes no difference.

We could see what it was to be at last forsaken - not so much by others, as by what we’d come to think of as our better selves, the part we’d                                      * miss more, should it go away. And now that it had, the departure seemed forever to have been at once inevitable and obvious. It was as if we had blinded ourselves unknowingly - and now we knew.
