Me, writing Daughter of the Lilies fanfiction: Oh, it looks like I need to come up with a new OC. I shall lovingly and perfectly craft them, making them completely unique as to best fit the tone, story, and themes I am trying to write.

Also Me: It shall be a sleep-deprived, twenty-something year old woman, an introvert uncommonly skilled in one or more branches of magic with the most tragic backstory I think I can get away with that involves intense family drama and angst that haunts her every waking moment. I shall endeavor to give her at least one dramatic moment where she makes an angry face while spouting a badass one-liner.

Thanks, anon. It might sound a little weird, but it was when Isla lit the candles right before Thistle worked on her ankle. In my original conceptualization of the story Rhys didn’t exist and Isla occupied his place antagonistic jerkface from the mercenary guild. The display of magical finesse in the dark before having a heart to heart with Thistle was really what solidified the current iteration of the character. The mental image was so strong I drew a picture of it, and I suck at drawing

So I had a couple of minutes of peace after a rather hectic shift, which ended up with me doodling a Daughter of the Lilies-style orc wearing suspenders because why not. I've named him Yegor, which is the Russian form of Gregory and means farmer. Since DotL orcs tend to be on the hairier side I've decided tha instead of being bald he ran afoul of a fire salamander - a common problem in his neck of the woods. But hey, he knows a mercenary team led by that one whipersnapper that his father used to chase off his property back in the day. They might be able to take care of things for him.
