We’ve had quite an adventure... It has been repeatedly determined that this is as big a treat Gracie can get.... Many may remember way back to #MemorialDay #2017, just one month after I adopted Gracie, she swallowed a giant semi-soft treat whole. It was a thing. There was foaming and gulping. We ended up at the ER with an emergency (plus vacation-pay) endoscopy. Fast forward to last Wednesday when I gave her a #dosequin for her arthritis. It’s like the size of a giant #gumdrop and not (clearly) hard enough to chew. She swallowed it...whole 😩. She went through the same whole thing. Gulping, then foaming, then almost throwing up but not actually throwing up. The first time, that treat lingered in her esophagus for hours, due to extremely poor veterinary care. Making it necessary to endoscope it through to her stomach. This time I thought what if I try to get it out of there... I picked her up and shook her as hard as possible upside down to try and dislodge it (Firm and deliberate as to not drop her). She threw up more foam so, I picked up again and thumped her chest as hard as possible while shaking her upside down again. Still nothing... just as I was dialing the vet she threw it all up 🙌 including that completely intact, giant, gumdrop shaped, treat. She seemed quite relieved. I agreed 😅 (O. M. G. With this girl 🙈) I’m sharing this just in case you ever think your dog is choking or swallowed something whole and it’s stuck DO NOT HESITATE to shake the treat right out of them! It was my first instinct the last time it happened but I thought I would hurt her but I know that Endoscopy hurt much more! Gracie and I slept much better that night that we ever would have after a night at the ER.
