Ev didn’t hate all bars. Just Pixies, which was always too loud and crowded, where she was always dodging spilled drinks and too-friendly men. So the Hunted Deer was a little more her speed, and in Ev’s opinion, you could find far more interesting people there.

That was what she was doing. People watching. You could learn a lot just by staying quiet and looking around. 

A few seats down, an argument started to break out and Ev watched as none of the other patrons reacted, as though this was hardly anything unusual. She looked back to the bartender in front of her. “Does that happen often?” she asked, bemused.
