Many intersex people are medically coerced as infants and children to better fit into a cisgender role and make their bodies cisnormative through infant genital mutilation. Intersex people may or may not transition physically, legally, or socially.

I can't even imagine- is this regarding an infant born as both genders or a parent actively choosing to change the gender of their child? Is that even fucking possible?

Alternatively, I know that the afab and amab terms are irrelevant now, but not why. Endosex/perisex is good terminology.

People who are not intersex. While genital configuration is most often used to assign gender at birth, it is not comprehensive, accurate, or even relevant to actual variations in physiology, biology, etc. Many people are assigned an endosex gender/sex at birth. But some find out later in life that their biological sex is not what they had expected based on their birth assignment.

So they are supposed to be opposites, yeah?

Generally, intersex people are not immediately considered transgender, and may or may not identify as transgender and/or non-binary, despite there being significant overlap between the two communities.

e.g. Ryleigh found out she was intersex fairly young when she asked about scars that never faded.

Again with the infant/child mutilation, though. That's what's tripping me up.

Obviously, not everyone is trans or one single gender, this is just twisting my brain.
