headcanon: affection

Like most, it truly depends on the person. Nelliel, however, is more comfortable displaying affection than she is receiving them. The only exception to this are her Fracción and Ichigo. She can rest her head on their shoulder, hug them, scream loudly at the top of her lungs in joy, and in return, they can do the same to her and she won’t question it. 

That being said, there are levels to her physical and verbal affection for people outside of that circle. Las Noches consists of warriors like herself who naturally have their guard up when around other, more aggressive and instinctual driven members. Despite this, there are physical moments when she’d unconsciously dust off dirt from an arrancars uniform, adjust their black sash and collar, tuck a strand of hair behind their ear, even offer them lunch if she ever notices they’ve yet to eat. 

As for Soul Reapers and Quincy, there needs to be a reason for Nelliel to express physical affection. Even then, it’ll take some time to get to the same level of affection she has interacting with arrancars. And honestly, a part of her doesn’t strive to seek that reason. She’ll be cordial and understanding with some when the time calls for it, but other than that, no affection. With humans, she finds no particular reason to interact with them, either. She likes to watch from afar more than anything, though. Likes to marvel at their daily lives and shenanigans.

Verbal affection is less driven, as she’s brutally blunt countless times in her interactions with Nnoitra and Grimmjow. Outside their dynamic, she still shows to be blunt, but it’s far more toned down and appears as comical, dry humour. She is, however, known to encourage others with her words, as she does with Orihime in her kid form. I’d like to believe that later in the TYBW timeline, she express’s verbal affection more, especially when helping rebuild Hueco Mundo and interacting with Halibel and Grimmjow.
