it was meant to be a simple enough mission. for weeks, the order had been unsuccessfully tracking down the origin of certain illegal potions and poisons that death eaters were using on both muggles and unsuspecting wizards, which resulted in a seemingly unconnected array of disappearances over the last few months. dumbledore, with the help of amelia bones, had been able to narrow down the possible areas of origin to an abandoned muggle inn (where a number of order members found themselves in, currently) or the pub five blocks down. when the finer details of their mission had been worked out, lily and dorcas were assigned partnership and left with the task of guarding the north wing of the building as another group searched the place. the plan had been going smoothly so far, both girls having succesfully taken down the death eaters who were supposed to be watching the entrance with barely a few scrapes on their bodies to tell the tale... until a loud crash came from further down the hall, where lily knew other groups were guarding the east wing. she didn’t have time to put much thought into it, as muffled screams and hexes and bright lights closely accompanied the sound. an ambush. fuck. wand at the ready, and heart racing by the second at the very thought of a fight, lily shared a knowing look with dorcas. ❝ dor, we should... ❞ she let her voice fade, debating whether or not she was about to suggest they leave their post to enter the battle she was certain had just broken out. lily wasn’t one to disobey direct orders during missions, especially if those had come from dumbledore himself, but she simply couldn’t stand the very thought of fellow members putting up a fight, possibly outnumbered, when lily herself was reasonably safe from danger.
