Everyone needs to go read Doppeldead, which I think is my new favorite @dark-lord-of-awesomeness fic, but I may be biased because I love Frankenstan, shapeshifters, and Maurice, all of which are in that delightful fic.

Thank you, I think Ford would consider Stan his brother always, no matter what happened between them. Stan's shapeshifter aspect is just what his brother is, its not who he is, so Stan could be a slimey gooey bug alien or a screaming pile of revived alien and thats still his brother. Stan had been an alien this entire time after all, Ford was the one who dropped the ball and thought he was playing a game.

I love writing them being soft with each other, mixed in with the horror and comedy, just small moments of them being brothers who love and enjoy each others company.

Ok, so I know in Doppledead that Stan dies via gang violence/being made an example of, but I was wondering how things would play out if he had the Ford style FrankenStan death? Like, if he used the mailbox to send Stan the postcard and actually managed to (accidentally? He probably would look 17, could be a Bill trick) kill him with the crossbow before realizing it was actually Stan. (I know Stan would likely be able to avoid it being a lethal blow, but what if he wasn't?)

Where would Maurice be? When would they find out? Would Ford realize quickly that this was actually Stan, or would it take longer? What would he do to Stan before realizing? After all, he has a perfectly good shifter corpse now.. AND they're probably a servant of Bill and dared to make a mockery of his brother...

How would this change things when Stan is brought back?

So.

Stan wouldn't be 17 to start, he'd go the way he did in @artistredfox shifter au, where he took on a larger adult form, then quickly shifted his face to Fords when he saw it.

And then he got shot by a crossbow, and he's dead.

Fords first thought, at seeing what looks like his brother dead with green blood?

He's killed Shifty. Shifty came, and tried to 'help' and he'd dead and Ford killed his son and oh god-

Except Shifty isn't dead, and they have some kind of established mode of communication. So once its quickly established that Ford did not kill his baby bug, he's left with a dead shapeshifter, and no idea why it was here. Probably Bill though, getting him to lower his guard and get to the portal.

Time to put that thing on ice for later. He'd love to cut it up and study its organs, but he's got a demon to deal with and a brother to wait for, autopsy can come later. Just shoves Stan onto a table in his lab and turns the temp down or slaps him with some preservative spells so he can cut him up after Bills taken care of.

Then its back to waiting.

And waiting.

And beating up the eye stealer and angrily deciding to do this on his own, since Stan's not going to show up.

Could go one of 2 ways. First, Ford consults the mail box, realizes that was his brother, and frankenstan's similar to doppeldead, except without Maurice and even more devastated about it all, and more slapdash since Maurice isn't there to add notes about shifter biology. He's a less well off when Fidds rolls up to find blob bathtub brother, as he hasn't had anyone to take care of him, and is less coherent on why he has a horror monster in his bathroom.

Then Stan finally snaps to his 17 year old self, and maybe calls Maurice to come help with Shifty since Stan is having panic attacks every other day.

Second way, Ford figures Stan wont show up, figures out how to get unicorn hair, or maybe Shifty gets Fidds, and together they figure out how to keep Bill out, and Ford is forced to put the dead shifter somewhere less horrifying. Life moves on, Ford dissects his dead specimen, puts all the organs in jars and writes all kinds of notes and such, and makes sure to put the rest in storage for later. He's got a portal to figure out after all!

Doesn't see Stan's car, as he's still in full hermit mode.

And then Maurice shows up.

Its been maybe a few months at this point, and Stan's missed his six month pestering. Maurice tracks him to Fords, sees his car, sees Ford hermiting, sneaks in, finds Stan's body on ice, and just stands there until someone finds them.

Maurice doesn't have feelings like humans. They don't care about their spawn like humans their children, they appreciated stan's versatility, and noticed his disappearance, and its not horrifying at all to find Stan's body, cut open and dead, in his own bases house.

Ford wouldn't have known after all. There's no reason to be mad, or angry.

So its in a very calm, logical manner that they turn to address him, holding his shifter kid, and give Ford their condolences. If they knew Stanley had passed, they would have sent flower, but they see Ford took care of arrangements months ago. Sad they missed it.

Just completely steamrolls any of Fords confusion with 'what, you didn't know your brother was a shapeshifter and that this is his corpse? Whoops, sad I had to tell you that then, so sad you found out you killed and cut open your own twin brother in your house like he was a bug.'

Cue the Frankening, family edition, where Ford spirals and panic works to stuff all Stan's organs back in the way he found them, get everything he needs to heal Stan's injuries, and bring him to life, and also Maurice is being incredibly harsh and petty, with 0 trust Ford can fix this, just vindictive and pleased Fords hurting about it, Shifty is confused and lost and sad, and Fiddleford is trying to tell Maurice to cut it off, comfort Shifty, and make sure Ford doesn't completely lose it.

Maurice would never be able to stand Ford on any level after, even if Stan was successfully revived and forgave him. Just the most petty, making life as difficult as possible in their free time, going out of their way for 'family bonding trips' just to pull Stan away from Ford even thought they hate it.

Don't worry! He'll get better! Its called FrankenStan for a reason, just need to get past the angst of it all and he'll be as good as new! Mostly! The scars might vanish but the mental anguish will linger :)

And in the meantime his not-parent and twin get to bond! Nothing like the death of a loved one to pull two people together after all!

Lol i already looked at it, but thank you for the warning regardless.

Not sure if this is a what if ask, or Stan in Doppeldead, but i'll go with the second one as its got a bathtub and this is about what i was thinking he'd look like. Not just eyes and mouths, but all kinds of limbs with skin that does and doesn't match. Wings with fur, scales, and feathers, fins with quills, arms with too many and too few fingers, too many joints, nothing bending as it should, heads with no faces, strange goopy growths that aren't anything but Stan's goop body squeezing through, all of its pulsing and there and gone, collapsing in on itself endlessly as it reformed into different horrifying combinations in a a shifting array of colors.
