The Slytherins and Gryffindors all sat at their respective tables in their first potions class of the week.

Severus: Wait…

–

*Severus hesitates, fighting with himself internally, before he lets out a long sigh*

*Harry waits, not turning around. Only the feel of Severus’ warm hand on his shoulder lets him know that the older man is still there*

*Severus’ hand slides off of Harry’s shoulder*

Severus: I’ve never been good at accepting things. Especially gifts.

*Harry turns around to face Severus again*

Harry: What makes it so hard?

Severus: Everything came at a price…even if I didn’t want the gift.

*Harry bites his lip, thinking. He then moved to pick up the chest of rare potions ingredients again*

Harry: I hate to tell you this…but my gift comes at a price as well*

*Severus glares and opens his mouth to speak-*

*Harry grins and speaks before Severus could question him*

Harry: So you have to teach me about these ingredients. That’s the price. I want to learn how to make better potions.

*Severus visibly relaxes, albeit annoyed*

Severus: So I recall. Shame you were only proficient at potions when you copied from my old textbook

Harry: Then I need to relearn everything properly.

*Harry’s thumb traced along Severus’ jaw, scratching against the light stubble*

Severus: No need to use my old pen name against me.

*Severus tries to walk away but Harry catches him by the sleeve and pulls him back*

*Severus is at a loss for words for a moment, a pink tinge on his cheeks*

*Harry pressed his body against Severus’ back, arms tightly wrapped around his old professor*

*Severus gave a half hearted struggle*

Severus: Let go of me, Harry.

Harry: You’re cute when you’re all flustered and pink, but fine, I’ll let you go,

*The pink to Severus’ cheeks became a flustered red and he stiffly walked away to tend to his other work. His heart hammered in his chest, but all in all…it wasn’t an unpleasant feeling*

*Harry smiled and watched Severus leave, not bothered that he didn’t get an “I love you” back. He’d get it…one day*

Sirius: I don’t understand what I did to Snape to deserve this…

*A week later, Sirius is walking the halls alone, trying to somehow avoid attention by wearing his Gryffindor quidditch robe*

*Things with James had become tense and awkward now that Sirius’ secret had gotten out and the Marauder’s previous closeness was strained. James is accepting but things aren’t the way they were before*

*Severus stood against the wall, waiting for the right moment. He wanted Sirius to feel his misery, to know what it was like to lose a friend and it had been oddly difficult. But finally, he sees Black walking down the hall, alone.*

Sirius: Spare me, Snape.

Severus: Who’s to say it’s fake?

Sirius: Despite what you and the other Slytherins think, I’m not stupid. I grew up around your lot and can spot your slimy ways from a distance.

Sirius: Look. I’m sure you have your many secrets that you want to keep hidden. Just…the only one I wanted to keep is now out and…everything is ruined…

Sirius: Even just platonically, that little bit would make me so happy.

*A small stab of guilt hit Severus. He knew that feeling of just being happy to be close to Lily, even as a friend. Then he remembered that this was Black he was talking to and the small bit of guilt went away*

Sirius: Nothing I have ever done deserved something this low, Snape. They were just childish pranks.

Sirius: They were! They were just a bit of fun, it’s just that you don’t have a sense of humour.

Severus: So the bruises and cuts and burns and assault you lot caused me were just innocent childish pranks?! Choking me with soap and exposing my body against my will was just a simple joke?

Sirius: Well no, but- that’s not the point of this! Your grievances aren’t what’s the matter here! You wouldn’t understand.

*Sirius laughs*

Sirius: No, I just know those who love the dark arts well. 

Sirius: I don’t know, sneaking an illegal potion into someone else’s pumpkin juice fits the description.

Sirius: Oh, Evans? She was already growing tired of you then…

*Severus grows tense and his control begins to slip*

Severus: No, she wasn’t.

Sirius: Complaining about you behind your back.

Severus: That’s not true!

Severus: She didn’t hate me!
